Have you been using online dating sites lately? Let me guess…you’re not quite meeting the right match, are you? It seems many women have this complaint. There are single (and probably married) guys all over these sites. Sure, but that’s not the problem.
The problem is most of them want sex…and even the guys that are fairly attractive are just not that compatible. Maybe some are too rude. Some are lacking in interesting conversation. Some are just not sexy, they don’t have the wit or intelligence you’re hoping to find.
There’s nothing wrong with your tastes! Having high standards is good. That’s actually what men want. They want you to be selective. They want you to be a little picky. They want you to know your worth and carry yourself like a successful, attractive woman that projects confidence. And believe me, the man of your dreams wants you to keep looking until you find him! So don’t settle.
In fact, what you might start doing is attracting higher quality guys to you, by coming up with a more attention-grabbing headline for your dating profile.
A lot of guys tend to “skin” dating headlines rather than clicking on all of them. If he’s a successful and attractive man then he’s probably used to talking to beautiful women. A good headshot is not always what attracts him. Usually he wants an attractive person AND an intriguing headline that gets his attention. The combination of both is what will have him clicking to see a profile and later contacting you.
Remember that the goal of a good headline is NOT to show him what kind of person you are. This is a common mistake. You’re not “selling” yourself to him, as in describing a car. You’re interacting with him. You’re feeding him just a few tidbits at a time. You’re flirting with him. They’re trying to get him interested in you so that he’ll keep talking to you and ask you out.
The goal should be to intrigue him. Share with him an idea, an experience, a benefit, a feeling – something that makes him FEEL something. This feeling you give him is all he needs to click and ask for more information.
Let’s consider some great dating headlines for women and why they work. Notice how they’re all about the experience, the fun of dating!
1. You will never guess why I had to get a tattoo removed. (Building anticipation, telling a story, great!
2. Let’s just fib and say we met in Las Vegas. (Funny line, gets attention)
3. Be warned: when I feel passionate about something, I can get loud. (Very intriguing, lets him know you have opinions – some guys like that)
4. Mysterious time traveler seeks man who loves to travel (Traveler keyword and some good humor)
5. Success in life is not what you think – I found out the hard way (Telling a story about something instantly relatable)
6. Your mom says I’m a bad girl and you should stay away from me (Nice taunt, gets guys interested fast)
7. Perceptive, hard-working, and Curious About You (List your best qualities)
8. Just want to have coffee and play 20 questions (Guys love 20 questions!)
9. You can defeat fear through humor, through pain, through honesty, bravery, intuition, and through love. -John Cassavetes (Famous quotes are good, just don’t choose anything too obvious)
10. Reality can be whatever I want. (Or choose a movie quote!)
11. Book Worm, Hiker, Likes to Sing (While Sober Too!) (Funny list headline!)
12. Beatles or Elvis? Choose one (This or That questions, works to start a conversation)
13. The Book > The Movie (What is something greater than?)
14. Outdoor events, roller coasters, new restaurants, traveling (Listing what you like, as long as it’s exciting and you plan on doing it on a date)
15. Very good at making lists (Random factoids are fun)
16. Pro: Conversationalist Con: Not well versed in Urban Dictionary (One good thing and one bad thing that’s more funny than actually negative)
17. If you could be a supervillain, what would be your power? (Fun and silly questions)
18. I make the best homemade pizza you’ve ever tasted (Bragging a talent or something you can do for a man you like is a great introduction)
19. Everything happens for a reason. Because you will it to be. (It’s OK to use bite-sized philosophy…it’s intriguing)
20. I reserve the right to go full Dwight and say False (References –a nice way to find someone who likes the same things as you do)
21. It all started when I was vacationing in Indonesia and saw…well… (Telling a story that he’ll want to know)
22. I’m looking for a funny guy, not a soul mate (Reversal on a cliché and lets guys know what they can do to impress you)
23. I escaped the 9-5 job and took a chance – so glad I did! (You’re definitely not boring or predictable)
24. Free 30 Day Trial – But please return all used parts (Funny!)
25. Is it polite to Google each other on the first date? Oh we all do it (Funny)
As we’ve discussed, you’re attracting him to a glimpse of you. It’s like the coming attractions at the movie. Preview how much fun it will be to date you. Be creative, sweet and specific as to what you can bring to a relationship. Try to think outside the box and use expressions and images that will give him something to visualize.
Stay positive and treat the headline like an introductory line that you can add onto as the first conversation continues. Avoid negativity as much as you can unless it’s funny. Always paint yourself in a positive light – someone attractive that knows she’s worth waiting for and knows she is looking for someone better than average.
Making this slight change in your dating headlines may improve your quality of matches for your favorite online dating site. Remember you can also change it up every so often just to make sure people who might have missed you the first time see your newest headline posted!
