16To some women, the idea of making the first move with a guy is frightening!
What if he rejects you? What if he likes you but thinks you’re way too forward?
There are even some guys who won’t date a girl who makes the first move, because he thinks she’s too aggressive. That’s not all guys, of course, but some are old fashioned that way.
So to answer the question, should women approach men first? It is, after all, 2019, and a lot of those old stereotypes about dating are proving to be false.
Is it so unthinkable that you could make the first move in a relationship? Maybe the guy you like is too shy. Or maybe you’re both at a party and you might never see each other again unless you act now.
Hey, you know what? I think it’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with you being a confident woman who goes up to men and starts a conversation.
The real question is, what is your APPROACH?
If you’re talking about cheesy pickup lines, like the kind guys would use in a bar, then here are some examples.
- Are you aware the cops could arrest? Because it’s illegal to look sooo fiiine!
- You’re weird looking but your personality is fascinating.
- You’re like coffee. Tall, dark, strong and
- Yo, do you sleep on your tummy? (No…) Well, then can I?
- Anyone ever tell you that you look like a hamburger? (No…) Oh well maybe it’s because I see your meat in between my buns.
- I think you’re a very smart thief. Know why? Because you stole my heart without a single clue.
- Your lips look a little wrinkled. But don’t worry I can press them for you.
- You make me feel like an ice cream cone in the summer heat.
- My hands are so cold! Got anything in your pants to warm them up?
- What kind of Uber are you? I mean do you prefer long or short rides?
- Hey, can you take a picture with me? I just want to make my ex jealous.
- Don’t get cocky just because you’re the most handsome guy in the room!
- Do you like bad girls? I’m bad at everything.
- Are you Times New Roman? Because I think you’re my type!
- Can I take your picture? Someone told me I should show Santa Claus what I want for the holidays.
- I like working out and fitness. I’ve been Kegeling all day long.
- You look like a hard working employee. And I know of an opening that needs filled.
- Happy Alentine’s Day. (What about the V?) Hey, I just met you! But it’s Friday night and anything can happen.
- What’s a nice young man like you doing with a bad boy’s body?
- Those jeans are very becoming on you. Then again, I would be coming on you too.
Okay, so you get the point. These lines are funny but they can definitely be embarrassing! It takes a lot of guts to use very sexual or romantic lines like this and not scare the guy away. And even then, you’re just asking for a booty call.
So if you want to have some fun, try them out. Just don’t be so shocked if some guys laugh but run the other direction. (Or never call again?)
The real challenge is coming up with opening lines that actually work and that get a man interested in you. They can be cute or funny. More importantly, they have to seem innocent. Subtle. As if you’re just starting a conversation. From there, the guy jumps in and that’s when you realize you have good chemistry. Here are some examples of cute lines that actually work and will start a conversation.
- What do you think getting a tattoo? You know what some of my favorite designs are?
- I’m bored. Can you think of any creative way to waste time?
- So what do you do when you just hang out with friends?
- Who’s your favorite celebrity? (Or even “What do you think of ___ ____?”, your favorite celebrity)
- Offend me. Come on, let’s hear a controversial opinion.
- So what’s your story? You kind of look like a secret agent or something.
- How do you know (____)? (A mutual friend or acquaintance)
- Do you come to (events) like this a lot?
- How is that ____? (Anything you notice that the guy is doing, whether a game, or eating something, etc.)
- Can you recommend any ____? (Depending on the setting and context, asking a guy for his opinions on local things is a great intro)
- I think I could go for a drink. Want anything?
- What’s your dream job? Or wait…should I try to guess?
- I’m kind of confused/nervous about ____. (Something you’re both doing or thinking of doing). What do you think?
- Hey you’re a ___ (his career). What’s that like? I’ve always wanted to try that.
- How is your week going?
- So I was looking at astrological signs and I notice you’re a ____. You kind of fit that…
- You look really (mention his current disposition). Is there a reason?
- Hey you look like (an attractive celebrity, he vaguely resembles). I loved you in ____ (Mention the name of a show)
- What’s the best birthday gift you ever had?
- Speaking of travel, what place in the world would you like to visit the most?
As you can see, it’s not always about the pick up line. Any icebreaker is not the best icebreaker. What matter is that you approach him, demonstrate confidence, and then start a conversation that’s easy to follow and easy to join in.
You don’t actually want a pick up line that’s too aggressive or too “manly” in its innuendos. Flirt later. In the beginning, focus on creating a good rapport and you will have better results.
