Texting – it’s somewhat of an underappreciated art, isn’t it? For every romantic or poetic text you might receive from that wandering Romeo, there are a hundred of these.
“Hey where u @?”
“U lookin fine”
“How are u tonight?”
“Asl?”
“Idk to do. You wanna hookup?”
And so on. It’s safe to say some people just don’t text the same way they think or speak. They might have a lot more to say in person, but become the Silent Cal type of personality over texting.
It’s not just guys that feel the pressure. If you’ve ever chatted with an intelligent guy, or maybe a funny guy, then it might be hard to think of something to say back to him. You think his comment merits an equal comment, right? So if he’s brainy or if he’s cracking jokes every ten seconds, then you worry he’s going to judge you for your lack of snappy responses.
Relax, it’s very unlikely that he’s testing you. At this stage in the relationship all he’s doing is making small talk. And most women misconstrue what a man actually wants when he starts entertaining you with his quick wit.
He doesn’t necessarily want you to compete or to hold your own. He just wants you to show appreciation for the effort he put forth. He wants validation and wants his feelings for you to be acknowledged and accepted. While it is a good idea to react with enthusiasm, or to vary your replies (such as asking for more details, asking related questions, making statements or exclamatory sentences) there’s no need to make every reply “brilliant” or equal in value.
Just have fun with it, while at the same time, investing the same amount of time and emotion that he’s given you. Here are some examples to consider.
1. I know I can be opinionated sometimes. But that’s why I like you so much. You’re strong, you’re confident about what you believe. Together, we’re an amazing team. You make me want to be the best at what I do. And nothing turns me on more than seeing you when you’re all on fire, doing what you do better than anyone else. That’s why we belong together.
2. You know the first moment I met you, I just had this feeling that we would be part of each other’s lives. Either you would win me over or I would seduce you. Either way…it was written in the cards. You and I belong together. In some way, shape or form, we are soul mates.
3. I’ve always admired your honesty and sincerity the most. So many other men out there play mind games and are just shallow when it comes to their lives. But you…you’re focused. You’re always going to be you and making the world a better place. I respect you for than anyone else. But most of all I love you more than anyone else.
4. I don’t always have the right words when I reply to your message. Sometimes all I can do is look at you…and realize that I’m in love. In lust. In like and just obsessed with you. You’re everything I find attractive about all men in one very tight package. I might not have the words, but my heart knows how special you are to me.
5. I don’t know why we met. Whether we’re destined to be together or just happen to find each other. But I’m so happy that you found me. I’m so happy our paths have crossed. We’ve been there for each other, learned a lot from each other. We complement each other. As long as I have you by my side, I’m the happiest woman in the world.
6. I am thankful for you. You love other people. You love going on new adventures with me. You’re such a hard worker and the best at what you do. You take pride in your work. It’s no wonder that I love you because you love life.
7. You are so funny. So smart. And witty. We know brawn and body is a turn on and you have that well taken care of. But sexy women like me also go for brains. And you have a fascinating mind. I can listen to you talk for hours. I never know what you’re going to say next but you always surprise me. And I always listen. I could listen to you read the phone book and I’d still be turned on. You are my dream lover.
8. You are what every woman wants and yet I have you all to myself. I’m the lucky one. I just want you to know that I never take you for granted. You are such a good man and have such amazing traits, I know if you ever left me you would be happy with anyone. But you chose me. The good news is that since he’s your boyfriend, you don’t have to take extra caution in writing your texts. You don’t have to worry about being too emotional or overly romantic because you are already in an intimate and physical relationship. You do have to be on guard from seeming too domineering or clingy. But if you speak naturally, freely, and with full confidence that the relationship is progressing according to HIS comfort, then you’ll get the hang of it in no time.
