Hey wait a minute. Is that cliché really true? Actually it’s not always easy to read a guy’s signals. He might like you…or you might be reading too much into his facial expressions or conversation. He might like you, but not be interested in a relationship.
So it’s safe to say that reading a man’s signals can be difficult, especially if he’s afraid of rejection. In fact, the more confident a guy is, AND the more guarded he is, the harder he is to read.
Confident guys DO flirt with you but that doesn’t mean they’re seriously interested. Reading the signals of a more confident guy presents a different challenge and we’ll discuss that in another blog.
Here’s what you should remember about shy guys. They’re not subtle. They don’t flirt mindlessly and everything they do is usually blatant and very often awkward.
Shy guys will send some signals…but here’s what might happen. At the last second, they chicken out! Why?
No one likes to be rejected. Sometimes shy guys are so afraid of being rejected, they literally pretend to not be interested. Or they take a step backwards, rather than pursue you.
What you shouldn’t do then, is give up on a guy just because he’s hard to read. He might like you a lot! But he could be waiting for the perfect time to tell you, or waiting until you give him some more reciprocal signals.
What we’re going to do now is discuss seven signs that a guy likes you but that he’s too SHY or scared to tell you. Learn to read between the lines and consider all of his behaviors, even the most subtle gestures.
- He finds every reason he can to touch you.
If a guy likes you, he is magnetically drawn to you. Even though all these touches probably seem platonic, he still thinks it’s a big risk. He can’t help himself…touching your hand, your shoulder, your arm, makes him feel closer to you. He will switch seats just to be nearer to you or walk closer to you from a distance. He is drawn to what he likes, whether he’s scared or not.
- He remembers little details and reminds you of that.
He takes mental notes of everything you tell him, even little things. He might actually bring it up later on, just to show you that he remembered something about you. This is not something friends do…it’s actually becoming of a boyfriend, who is expected to remember details about the woman he loves.
- He gives you overt and or subtle compliments.
Most scared guys won’t compliment you physically, or if he does, he will keep it light and fast. No heavy sexual tension or awkwardness. Instead, he will find other reasons to compliment you, such as what you’re wearing, or a skill you have, or best of all, your creative mind. Chill guys aren’t in a rush to compliment. But shy guys can’t resist!
- He’s nervous…or acts weird around you.
Your shy guy will put up a front like he doesn’t care. But try though he might, he will be unable to fake it entirely. He might not be shaking, gulping or sweating. But he will still be jumpy, giggly, or usually energetic when he’s talking to you. His expressions are bigger. His voice is more theatrical. Simply put, he’s into you. He’s entertaining you. He wants to keep you interested and is working hard to get you to notice him.
This ties into the next step…
- He tests the sexual tension…just barely.
Contrary to what it seems, a scared guy is not always going to chicken out. Sometimes shy guys or scared guys do push themselves and try to make a move on you.
It’s just not a very SMOOTH move. In fact, it might be a little confusing at first.
But he will test the sexual tension just a little bit. For example, some shy guys might “joke” about you two ending up together, or some little naughty idea that seems innocent – but implies something. Or he might discuss an event that he’s thinking of inviting you to, but is testing you to see if you’re interested first.
It’s usually not your imagination. He just doesn’t know how to broach the subject. But rest assured, he is paying attention to how you react. So encourage him and flirt a little bit more than he is. You might draw him out and give him a boost of courage.
- His friends suspect something.
Friends might not actually pay much attention to conversation, but they notice gestured, facial expressions and eye contact. They usually notice things like this even before you do, because they’re objective. They can tell how a guy is smiling at you, what or where he’s staring, or even how the timber in his voice changes when he’s having a conversation with you. If you really suspect a guy likes you but is too scared to say anything, ask a close friend! (Or even one of his friends)
- You have a sixth sense about it!
Not literally speaking. But some people theorize that women can always tell if a guy likes her by one simple test…Is he bragging about himself? Is he drawing her out in conversation? Is he “puffing himself up” so to speak and on his best (or worst) behavior? Simply put, men chase – they put forth greater effort to keep your attention. That behavior is easy to spot…even though you’re not always sure how to describe it.
Is he interested? It’s hard to say. But is he acting peculiar? Or is there something odd about him and the way he’s always paying attention to you? Does he make a special effort to point out his accomplishments, or share funny stories, or tell you about exciting things going on?
Remember that. Just because he’s pretending not to be in love with you, doesn’t mean he hides it very well. These subtle behaviors usually tell the whole story. When a man falls for you, he can’t help but “sing” in your presence.
