Missing My Love.

Missing My Love

Be honest…do you miss your ex right about now?  Your love?  The man you once thought was The One, the one you thought you would spend the rest of your life with?  But life happened.  And yes, of course, it hurt so much to lose the relationship you once cherished.

You can’t think logically about losing someone you love.  It doesn’t make much logical sense.  Logically, you should be able to take comfort in statements like:

  • At least I got to know him and loved him for a while
  • He’s happier now with someone else
  • We were always unhappy…we weren’t a good match
  • I’ll always have my memories of him

These are not comforting at all, however, because love becomes from emotion.  Love is not only intense but is oftentimes irrational.  It doesn’t make logical sense, so any reassurances of how things will get better over time are of no help to you right now.  You feel the loss.  You miss him.  That’s all you feel for the moment.

Whether because one of you moved away, or just suffered a bad breakup, the grief is immense.

No wonder the phrase “I miss you” is so profoundly powerful.  Sometimes just using that sentence can get your ex’s attention.  He might miss you too.  He might even think about getting back together.

The question though is what ELSE should you say if and when you decide to tell your ex that you miss him?  Is this even an option?  Or should you wait until he comes to you?

Let’s first consider five tips in establishing communication after a breakup and then consider 10 “missing you” quotes that he might enjoy.

  • After a breakup, ALWAYS begin a no-contact period. No exceptions because this is the detox stage you need to accept the breakup and change the dynamic of the relationship.
  • BEFORE using any “I miss you statements” establish friendly, fun, and independent conversation with your ex. You must approach him from a feeling of “I don’t need you anymore…we’re just friends.”
  • Wait until he brings the old relationship up. He will, if you give him time.
  • Then, use a “miss you quote” that tugs at his heartstrings

Here are some quotes that are emotionally powerful and yet also convey something very important if you read between the lines.

  1. We had so many good memories together. I will cherish them always.  (Give examples)  They were some of the best times of our lives.  I miss you.
  2. Do I miss you? What do you think?  Your love is like sunlight to me.  I’ll never stop wanting it and needing it.  But sometimes I have to look away for my own survival.
  3. Sometimes it hurts having to say goodbye, you know. When I used to feel so safe and comfortable in your arms.  I don’t like the idea of saying goodbye.  I miss us, the way we were.  I miss you.
  4. You never left my mind. You never left my dreams.  I don’t know if we’ll ever be back together…but you will always be on my mind.
  5. Sometimes I see something on the news and my first reaction is to tell you. Do I miss you?  All the time.
  6. You know what I miss the most? Your smile.  You always had the loveliest and most charming smile.
  7. Sometimes I think about the kiss we might share if we decide to get back together. How passionate it might be.  One of those grand, meet me at the airport moments that you see in movies sometimes.
  8. I am much happier now and living a fuller life now. By all reason, I shouldn’t miss you.  But of course I still do.  I’ve made adjustments to my own life that helped me become a better person.  I’m different now.  But I do still love you and miss you.
  9. My world is not the same without you. I don’t need you in my life but I want you in my life.  Does that make sense?  I don’t think I’ll ever love someone as much as I once loved you.  We grow up…we get over things.  But at one point we were so happy together.  I miss those days.
  10. I’m not resentful. I know we were both different people back then. We’ve grown a lot apart from each other.  Life is a journey.  An experience.  I’m just glad we’re friends again and can talk about these things honestly.  I’ve missed you a long time.  I’m glad you’re here.

What’s amazing about all of these lines is the simple fact that you’re NOT begging him to come back.  You’ve changed since the breakup.  You’re more independent, more confident, more like you were originally when he first met you.

Right away, your ex can sense that the “old” relationship won’t work.  You’re not the same people anymore and so the only way to have a friendship again (which might progress into something else) would be to start from scratch.  Approach each other as friends, in a spirit of fun, no drama, and just mutual respect and independence.

If the attraction is still there (which it usually is) work on building a new relationship with different patterns.  New and better rules.  This time you can avoid the old conflicts that stressed your relationship and caused the breakup.

It’s a brand new energy.  Yet, that doesn’t invalidate all the good memories you still have together.  Letting him know that you still treasure the good times and remember him and the past so fondly, is actually one of the best ways to tell him that you miss him.

You don’t just miss him…you miss the “best version of him”, the good man you know he’s capable of being.  Encourage him to be better.  Get him to work harder for your approval and regain your trust.

In the end, using “miss you” quotes with this strategy in mind (changing for the better, but still appreciating the past) is the best way to win your ex back and start a new relationship that will endure.
