What timeless bit of wisdom that lyric was. Because when it comes to reading men – supposedly such a mysterious and difficult creature to learn – body language and action sometimes speaks louder than words. Men choose their words carefully. But we usually can’t manipulate the way they kiss. Men just kiss. We enjoy it!
Here’s the thing…his kiss is going to match what that man is feeling or thinking inside. In that moment, the way he kisses you is a reflection of his feelings for you.
How to Tell He Loves You by His Kiss
Now you might be wondering, as you think over every kiss you’ve ever had in your life, what IS a man thinking and how does his kiss change according to positive and negative vibes he’s feeling? Let’s consider eleven types of kisses and what they each say about his mindset.
1. The Peck
A fast, closed-lip kiss is formal. If he uses this frequently, he’s either making a show of it (perhaps in public) or he is very much into tradition and appearances. It’s not a soulful kiss at all but feels forced. Why is he forcing it? It’s concerning if this is the way he kisses you when you’re alone.
2. The Cheeky Kiss
Kissing you on the cheek is another somewhat formal kiss, though it can also indicate he’s affectionate – and doesn’t just want to kiss for sex. He might like showing his feelings with a quick cheek kiss. On the other hand, if this is all he ever wants, you’re definitely in the friend-zone.
3. The Hand Kiss
This used to be a very formal gesture, common and respectable in Jane Austen times. In modern times, however, it’s more of a show off move for a man who wants to be a dashing prince. It’s a sweet and innocent gesture…and yet if he makes intense eye contact with you during that kiss it can be very romantic.
4. The Porn Kiss
If he fast-forwards the slow kiss and goes straight for the tongue and rolls his face all over yours – almost as if he hates kissing – then it’s all about sex. This kind of kiss indicates a total lack of intimacy. He wants sex but he doesn’t like the idea of intimacy, bonding or engaging emotionally. Beware!
5. The Slow Kiss
This is the best kiss, and the one that’s most likely associated with love and genuine affection. When a man is in love, or at least very close to it, he takes his time. He wants to remember this moment. He wants this moment to last, just the two of you together. He loves slow kisses, caresses, a smooth tilting of the head as you continue this soulful embrace. He loves the feeling of your lips pressing together, the moisture, the heat, the heart-throbbing excitement of a first kiss!
He loves it so much (because he loves YOU so much) he wants to make it last. He wants to be a good kisser and take his time.
This is a definite way to tell how he loves you with his kiss… it kisses you with love!
6. The Virgin Kiss
Kind of like the Slow Kiss, except he forgets to use his hands. He might also do clumsy things like use too much tongue, kiss too dry, or get too slobbery. The thought is there that he wants a slow kiss….he’s just not that experienced.
7. The Upper and Lower Lip Kiss
This kiss starts as a slow kiss but eventually sucks on the upper or lower lip. He may even kiss your chin, cheeks or jaw. It feels lusty and intense. It follows an intense slow kiss but is usually right before a French kiss.
8. The French Kiss
French-kisses are the natural end of a respectable slow kiss. As passion builds, you want more, he wants more. You desire more intimacy, more exploration. No wonder then when your tongues caress each other you feel a magnificent tingle. French-kisses make excellent foreplay for sex. They’re also very romantic and can push your red hot romance over the edge.
This means it’s actually somewhat difficult to tell how a guy feels from a French-kiss. Is he in love with you or in lust with you? If it’s the latter, assume he’ll want more French-kissing and less slow kissing. Or he’ll fast-forward through the slow kissing and go for the tongue.
9. Forehead Kisses
Forehead kisses are all about soul and emotional connection. They’re usually not platonic but are all about passion. It suggests trusts, connection and safety. Love! You can feel it, especially since he must hold you close in his hands to push his lips to your forehead. He wants to protect you and take care of you. Good sign!
10. The Neck Kiss
Much like the French kiss, this one is associated with passion and lust, the preceding steps to neck, petting and foreplay. Women have very sensitive necks and some guys will rush a woman into sex, going for a short kiss, French kiss, and neck-kiss combo. The neck kiss should be the beginning of foreplay, but the END of the kissing stage. If it’s your first time together, your boyfriend should be postponing these more intimate kisses until you’re ready.
11. The Shoulder Kiss
A man kissing you on your shoulder or back usually indicates a strong emotional bond. It’s a love kiss, a move of safety, protection and assurance. He’s thanking you, trusting you and appreciating you without words, but with a romantic kiss.
Yes, paying attention to how he kisses you is an insight into his mind. How does he feel about the relationship? Is he attracted to you? Is he attracted but emotionally distant? Does he really love you?
How he kisses you can tell you if he loves, appreciates, and adores you.
Lastly, remember that eye contact is important. Not necessarily during the kiss (since we tend to close our eyes) but after and before. A man making love to you with his eyes is one of defining moments of an intimate relationship. Love is about the emotional nuances. If you can discern his thoughts and feelings, you can better determine which relationships have the most potential for true commitment.
